Court of Appeal dismisses appeal against the severity of sentence of 10 years' imprisonment with the final year two years suspended, imposed for false imprisonment of the appellant's ex-girlfriend, on the grounds that, given the prior history of violence, particularly the appalling violence directed towards women, the sentence required was a significant one.

Criminal law – sentencing – appeal against the severity of 10 years' imprisonment with the final year two years suspended imposed for false imprisonment – whether the sentencing judge had appropriate regard to the psychiatrist’s report – whether the sentence imposed fell outside the available range – appeal dismissed.
